Rail services across the Netherlands, including Groningen, are set to face disruptions as the FNV union begins strikes following failed wage talks with ProRail. FNV is pushing for a 15% wage increase for rail workers, but ProRail says this is not financially feasible. ProRail has offered a lower increase of up to 7.9% for lower salary groups, which FNV believes isn’t enough, especially for train dispatchers.

Starting Monday, November 11, FNV will hold short, region-specific strikes to reduce the impact on travellers. In Groningen and Zwolle, the strike will occur on November 22, from 6:00 to 9:00 AM, potentially cancelling NS and Arriva train services during morning rush hours.

The strikes follow an ultimatum issued by FNV on November 6, which ProRail declined, prompting the union to move forward with planned actions. Both sides acknowledge that the strikes could lead to significant travel issues, but FNV has indicated it will consider further actions if negotiations do not resume.
