On Sunday evening, the Northern Netherlands Police conducted a bicycle lighting check in collaboration with the Groningen-South office, resulting in 34 fines for cyclists riding without proper lights. The operation, announced via social media, also issued five additional fines to individuals who failed to present valid identification.

The police didn’t limit their checks to cyclists. Other vehicles were inspected for issues such as unclear license plates, missing reflectors and mirrors, and defective brake lights, with further fines issued for these infractions.

In a gesture of safety awareness, all cyclists stopped during the check and received a free set of bicycle lights from the officers. The police plan to conduct more such checks in the coming weeks to improve road safety across the region.
