The municipality of Groningen is seeking a new mayor, and residents are being invited to share their thoughts on what qualities and priorities the new leader should have. An online survey is open until 7 December via stemvangroningen.nl, giving residents, entrepreneurs, and organisations a chance to contribute.

Shaping the Mayor’s Profile

The results of the survey will help the municipal council create a profile sketch for the new mayor. This profile will form the basis for the job vacancy. Participants can weigh in on which issues should take priority, such as public safety, support for vulnerable groups, gas extraction concerns, or other key topics.

The survey also asks for input on the qualities the new mayor should have, such as being approachable, decisive, reliable, or sympathetic. Additionally, there is space to offer personal advice for the future mayor.

How to Participate

The survey can be completed:

  • Online: Visit stemvangroningen.nl by 7 December.
  • On Paper: Paper forms are available at the following municipal locations:
    • Centrum (Kreupelstraat 1)
    • Loket Werk en Inkomen (Harm Buiterplein 1 – Europapark)
    • Haren (Raadhuisplein 10)
    • Ten Boer (Hendrik Westerstraat 24)

Completed forms can be submitted at these locations until 3 December.

Next Steps

The municipal council will review the survey results and finalize the profile sketch in early 2025. Afterwards, the Minister of the Interior will open the vacancy for candidates. This process ensures that the community's voice is central to choosing a mayor who reflects their needs and values.
