Google Will Invest 0.6 Billion Euros in Development of a Data Centre in Groningen

The construction of the newest Google data centre in the Netherlands has just begun! The company plans to invest 600 million in development and create 125 direct jobs.

Since 2014 Google invested 3.8 billion in data centres in the Netherlands alone. This action is a result of increasing demand for Artificial Intelligence and cloud services.

The building is currently under construction in Westpoort, which is located west of Groningen. The building itself is designed for peak sustainability. Google is contributing to achieving a net of 0 CO2 emissions in all of its activities before the year 2030. The construction is going to be facilitated with heat absorbers that are going to cool the servers and transfer thermal energy to further customers. This system helps to avoid using water as the primary cooling method, which is beneficial for the environment. On top of that, the roof of a building will be covered with solar panels.

Google already created 3 other data centres in the Netherlands, in cities such as Eemshaven, Middenmeer and Winschoten. With rising demand for AI and cloud services, we can expect a greater amount of investment in this field.
